Pine nuts
Pine nuts are a general name for edible pine seeds. In Russia people use this term for Siberian pine seeds. Traditionally the name “nuts” is used, although they are not. The kernel of pine nuts contains a huge amount of nutrients: 50–60% of fat, 15–25% of protein, amylum, sugar and vitamins. Pine nuts are rich in vitamins of A, B, E, C and K groups, as well as in phosphorus (P), copper (Cu), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), and manganese (Mn). As all other seeds, pine nuts have a high fat content. Besides, pine nuts are rich in protein.

Pine Nuts Usage
Many useful products are received from pine nuts, such as pine nut oil, pine seed cake (ground oil-cake), pillows filled with pine nut shells, etc. The outer shells of pine nut are applied for the production of healthful liqueurs and extracts. Moreover, pine nuts are used in manufacturing of high-value finishing materials such as cedarplast. People have been consuming pine nuts for many years. Folk medicine recommends it for intestinal diseases (gastritis, ulcer, etc.). To achieve better results, one can mix it with honey. Pine nuts are also used in cosmetology. Pine nut extract has a wide range of usage. When added to baths, it improves skin tonus, skin becomes soft and silky. People drink pine nut extract for hemorrhoid, neuroses, liver and kidney diseases. It is also recommended for blood disorders and arthritis. The brew from the outer shells of pine nuts is known as a great remedy for gum inflammation. Besides, it can be used as a hair-dye (it gives chestnut brown color). Pine Nuts Harvest
Our pine nuts are collected in the ecological and favorable areas of Siberia (mountains of Khakassia, Altai, Far East, and Kuznetsk Alatau). The place for harvest is chosen well in advance: it must be away from residential areas (unspoiled by industry). Strobili of cedar are collected with the help of a specific tool called “kolot”. After harvest pine nuts are removed from cones by specially designed crushing equipment.
